Yohann! Taking care of the senior dog........

Yohann Von Eziel,
He was born September, 13th 1996, that makes him 13 1/2 years old! That's pretty old for a Boxer. He is in almost perfect health, but he has had his ups and downs. I contribute his golden age from our all natural health regimen.

When Yohann was 6 yrs old he started a limp in the back leg. It got real bad to the point he had to be seen by the Vet. Bad news came after an X-ray, we sent off the slides to be read by the radiologist. Osteo-Sarcoma is what came back with 6 months to live. Before that diagnosis I had NO idea about alternative medicine, natural remedies or natural diets. So after tons of research, I learned!
Yohann was put on anything and everything we could find as well as a natural holistic diet. We also had a special blend made from South America of a Witch Doctor Remedy. I'm not sure where to give credit but Yohann miraculously responded to something and in 3 months had NO TRACE of cancer! His leg, even to this day is double the size, but no CANCER!! His health has been unbelievable!

In the past year or so Yohann has developed a bit of hypoglycemia. He started with seizures and of course the Vets said it was classic epilepsy, but with a little observation, I could clearly see we were dealing with hypoglycemia. It seems frequent feedings and some honey through out the day really help. We have recently started him on PetAlive Gluco Ensure for Levels in pets with great results. I am not sure why he would get this, maybe diabetic? but he is still healthy and full of vigor!

Caring for the senior dog requires a lot more care, they seem to benefit from smaller frequent meals and more bathroom trips. A good senior diet, natural holistic foods are essential! Raw foods are good too! I like to add boiled brown rice and peas and carrots or sweet potatoes.

Pro Biotics are very important for the senior dog. His digestion slows down and needs help! I feed Yohann yogurt and flaxseed oil with blueberries. Yohann loves this in the evening before he goes to bed. Pro Biotics can be given in pills and paste or naturally with yogart, if you use yogurt, make sure you get plain, and make sure it does have live cultures.

A senior dog also needs a good pet bed, we like to use memory foam but anything up off the floor will help! Make sure the bed is not too thick, it can make it too hard for the senior to get up and off the bed!

Joint supplements are a hot topic with the senior pet! We like to use MSM with Yohann. The results are unbelievable. Yohann does have some arthritis, especially in his leg that had cancer. Pure MSM has really helped him. I found the powder works best for us. We also use it with our senior horses too. MSM has
anti-inflammatories, and is so necessary to our bodies for good health.
